It's exactly the same width as the previous regular 8mm, or otherwise known Standard 8mm film format. It has small sprocket hole perforations on only one side of the film. However, the dimensions of the sprocket holes are smaller than those on Regular 8mm film, which gave a larger picture. The Super-8 standard also has an area where sound can be magnetically recorded, which was introduced in 1973.
